#Privacy: Austrian foreign ministry targeted by cyber attack

A cyber attack against Austria’s foreign ministry is suspected to have been conducted by a foreign country.

The Austrian government reported the attack on Saturday to which experts have warned that it could last several days.

The attack came on the same day Austria’s Green Party backed forming a coalition government with the conservatives.

Technical details regarding the attack has not been disclosed, however counter-measures were put in place immediately. The ministry stated that due to the seriousness of the attack, it can be assumed that a “state actor” was behind it.

In a statement, the foreign ministry said: “Despite all intensive security measures, there is never 100% protection against cyber-attacks.”

Austria isn’t the first country to have fallen to such attack. In 2018, the German government’s IT network was struck by a cyber attack. The Russian threat group, Fancy Bear, was said to be behind the attack.
